Simple advice for average (and below) players #27
When I say 'average', I am just using wotlabs.net/ scale, basically anyone with recent win8 below 900 or so. I know there is a lot of advice out there, usually from better players than me, but maybe this will resonate better with some folks. Sometimes, it helps to get a perspective from someone like yourself, who's also struggling to improve. There is a lot of information out there, and it can really become overwhelming, especially when you need to improve almost every aspect of your game, so I'll try to keep it simple.

I'd love for others to chime in and offer their thoughts and advice as well. What's one thing that helped you the most recently?

Ok, so here it goes, roughly in order of importance:
  • Don't be a hero.
    • That's right, you're not a hero yet, so don't try to be one. Don't go alone against multiple tanks, unless you're sure you can handle it, or you don't have a choice. If everyone abandons one flank, forget about it, don't die to save the match. Often, you'll be more helpful with other tanks supporting you. You'll survive longer, and do more damage.
  • Watch the minimap regularly. Set a timer to beep every minute if you have to.
    • Minimap will tell you if you're outnumbered or your team is moving in a different direction, if so, find a way to get back to your teammates.
    • It will tell you if you're camping too far from the action, if so, find a way to get back to your teammates. However, if everyone is camping,
then f*ck it, camp with them, because, like I said before, don't be a hero.
    • It will tell you a lot of other things too, but look elsewhere for more advanced advice.
  • Play less tanks/tiers.
    • It takes time to learn your tanks and other tanks you're playing against. Everyone is different, maybe you can handle 20 tanks and 4 different tiers, but be honest with yourself, can you really? I suggest improving your win8 in few tanks/tiers, then adding more.
    • You can see win8 for each of your tanks, keep playing tanks you do well in, and add one tank at a time. If you have to grind in a tank you suck in, at least try not to grind in multiple tanks you suck in.
    • Just because you have a tank, doesn't mean you have to play it, forget the 3x weekend multipliers, that's right, forget about it.
  • If you're engaging the enemy, KEEP MOVING, unless you're hidden/sniping.
    • Get cover after each shot, if you can't, wiggle and angle. Avoid giving easy weak spot shots to your enemy. Don't sit still while you're reloading.
    • After each shot, consider relocating to get a better shot, or to help your team kill a low health tank.
    • If you're in a fast tank, use that to your advantage, relocate, poke and shoot, relocate again, don't brawl like a heavy.

Finally, keep reading the Clan Library (because it's awesome), watching replays of good players, and consciously decide to practice/improve at least one skill every match you play.

Have fun, I hope you found something helpful in this post.

Simple advice for average (and below) players #28
map awareness and taking your time to get that shot that will damage. i know in the heat of the battle we tend to hurry and shoot but taking your time to get that shot in is a small but major step in the right direction. I know its been said over and over but that penetrating detracking shot is valuable. This is especially nice when it happens and the enemy player is detracked where they can not shoot back due to buildings, environment, gun depression is hindered.

anyway thats just one small piece of advice that i know personally works.

Don't Die so fast , i know many times you may get hell in the chat for laying back and supporting , but a dead tank cant shoot and you get more damage in if you live longer in the battles . so in other words if you over extend on the map you may run into an ambush and not have the support you need or may not have any help at all . so live longer and do more damage is the name of the game .
